UBC Okanagan Heat – 0 UNBC Timberwolves – 1
Game Recap: UBC Okanagan Heat women 6 game unbeaten streak was abruptly halted when the heat ventured up to Prince George this weekend. UNBC came out hard to defend their home turf and caused the heat difficulty. UNBC jumped onto the score board in the 16 min from a free kick 35yrds out. Despite two breakaways in the first half one by Emma Nixon and one from Alexa Kennedy the Heat could not get past the Twolves goal keeper and at the half the game remained 1 0 Timberwolves.
The second half the heat attempted to regroup and battled to get a goal. The best chance came off a header by Alexa Kennedy from a cross from Jennifer Kidd in the 70th minute which was saved off the line. The heat continued to push forward but just could not find the back of the net. At the final whistle it remained 1-0 in favour of UNBC.
“We started the game off slow with little communication. In the second half we stepped up our game but unfortunately couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities presented. As a team we know what we have to improve on to be successful and we are already preparing to make positive changes for our games to come.” Vanessa Hadaka co captain.
“It was a disappointing performance today as we are a much better side than we showed. It is a very tight group and each team we meet is battling for a play off spot and we have continue to work hard for one as well. There are two games left in our season we have to be prepared to bring our top game.” Claire Paterson
The Heat Women fight for playoff position on the road next weekend against Douglas College and Kwantlen Polytechnic University Games at 1pm on Saturday 12pm on Sunday.
