UBC Okanagan Heat 2 Douglas Royals 0
Goal Scorers(Alex Kaiser – 2)
Game Recap: For the first time in program history UBC Okanagan Women’s soccer will be competing in post season play. Today the Heat locked up second place in their division by defeating Douglas College Royals 2 – 0. It was a slow start but the heat were prepared for Douglas direct style of play and did well to eliminate the deep ball threat however there were limited scoring opportunities created in the first half and the score remained nil – nil at the half. UBC O adjusted their game plan at half and took advantage of the fact that the royals were man marking Alexa Kennedy. Alex Kaiser provided the heat with the first goal of the match when she popped through a hole created by Alexa and slotted the ball home in the 60th minute. Kaiser scored her second of the game when she stepped up to take a penalty shot that was awarded due to Amanda Fehr being taken down in the box.
“We managed to work out most of the kinks by the second half and worked hard to create some great scoring opportunities which we eventually capitalized on. Overall however it was our determination to succeed and our excellent teamwork that won us this match” co captain Elizabeth Babcock
“I am very happy that we picked up the win today and I am very proud for the team setting their goal and achieving it. The team was more settled in the second half and really came together, determined to capture the 3 points. The win gives us a little breathing room tomorrow when we play Kwantlen Polytechnic University which will allow us to try some other player combinations.” Claire Paterson
