UBC Okanagan Heat 0 Langara Falcons 3
Game Recap: The defending national champion proved to be a tough match up for the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s soccer team in the provincial semi-final Saturday at Cunnings Field in Coquitlam. The Langara Falcons relegated the Heat to the Bronze medal match with a 3-0 victory this afternoon. Langara applied a lot of pressure early with several good opportunities to score, but were thwarted in their attempts partially due to the UBC O player of the match Jennifer Kidd. Lanagra’s Rachel Ramsden scored in the first half to break the tie and send the Heat trailing 1-0 at the break. The second half saw the Falcons Ramsden notch her second goal of the game. Trailing 2-0 the Heat started pressing the offensive end a taking a few more chances which allowed the Falcon’s Michelle Francis to score the third and final goal for Langara as the match ended 3-0.
Coach Paterson “We lost 3-0 it was a good game to a good team. The girls played their hearts out and left everything on the field. Although the result was disappointing it was a pleasure to watch the teams compete like that, just a pretty game to watch.”
The Heat will face the Thompson River University Wolfpack in the bronze medal match Sunday at 10:00am. The Wolfpack lost to Kwantlen 3-2 in a shootout in their semi-final.
The Heat beat TRU in Kelowna 2-1 and played to a 1-1 draw in Kamloops for their only two meetings this season. UBC Okanagan are still playing for history as they have never medaled at the provincial championships before.
