Two current and one former UBC Okanagan player teamed up to win the triples title at the 33rd edition of the Kelowna Triples and Reverse volleyball tournament.
In the open division, Heat players Alex Basso and Preston Tucker teamed up with UBCO alumni Chris Major to take the championship.
The bronze went to Chloe Deutscher, Nate Speijer and Joel Cashcetto.
In the competitive division, Ed Hulshoft, Pete Low and Julie Morin took first place 25-18, 25-16 over Thanh Pham, Lisa Pham and Bob Bayntun in the last match of the day showing off a variety of offensive skill.
Rick McClaren, Lana Topham and Ben Siepermann took third place.
In the recreational division, Barb Augsten, Dave Karassowitsch, Randy
Duff, Lisa Parfinuk and Jay Chaisson took first place over Bill Knox, Liz Knox and Treavor Engelsmeier after a grueling three-set match (14-25, 25-21, 15-13). Brad Sellars, Shane Bourdage and Karen Bourdage took the bronze.
Sunday in reverse doubles, long time duo of Scott Finlayson and Karen Hocking beat out sister Victoria Hocking and partner Kyle Robinson to reach the finals of the competitive division where they took on Kevin Churcher and Trish Delwo.
Finlayson and Hocking took first place 25-18, 25-15 showing some great offensive diversity.
Bronze went to Clarice MacGillivray—joining UBCO Heat in September—and Adam Dutil. In the recreational division, father-daughter duo of Hans and Quinci Birker faced Romeo Aytoni and Liz Knox for the gold. The Birkers swept the final and came out with the first place prize. Rob and Jessica Bartlett came third.
Volleyball BC’s next beach event is the Okanagan Beachfest Aug. 7 and 8 at Skaha Beach in Penticton.
