UBC Okanagan Heat teammates Preston Tucker and Nate Speijer capped off the competitive beach volleyball season on a winning note.
In the final event of 2010 Okanagan Sand Series, Tucker and Speijer edged Tanner March and Tegan McGraw in the final of the U24 divison in two hard-fought sets—21-18, 21-18—Sunday at Shaka Beach in Penticton.
Another Heat player, Adam Schwarz paired up with Erik Redfern to take the bronze medal.
In the 18U girls division, B.C. Summer Games teammates Kelsey Thompson and Keirsten Mend defeated Chandler Proch and Suzanna Campbell (Team B.C. setters) 21-16, 21-13 in the final. Katja Birker and Nikki Valgardson took third after defeating Lindy Plocktis and Lindsay Wingerak.
In the 16U girls division seven teams faced off for the title. After going undefeated in pool play, Megan Ramstad and Alia McLure went undefefeated, downing Janna Clarke and Carissa Kocsis 25-20 in the final.
Kaelyn Parmelee and Jacqueline Banks took third place by defeating Kate Roseberry and Kelsey Taron.
In the 14U girls division, Quinci Birker took her third title in as many tournaments with her partner Hannah Schell, beating Abi McCluskey and Jo Gunning 21-14, 21-18 in the final.
Gemma Davies and Maggy Corrado placed third after their win over Nykaila Wheeler and Courtnay Wheeler.
In the 14U boys division, Kirill Dubrovskiy and Rhys Evans took the final 21-17, 21-14, over Logan Mend and Kevin Saunders.
Colton Van Camp and Spencer Kingzett took third place over Sam Parks and Ryan Bednar in a three-set battle.
