The Heat made the trek up to Prince George this weekend to face UNBC and came away with a 5-0 victory to continue their unbeaten season. The women’s soccer team from UBC Okanagan determined to wipe out the memories of last year’s loss at the North Cariboo Soccer field were focused to start strong and finish stronger. UBC Okanagan was successful in following the script laid before them as Alexa Kennedy scored 5 minutes into the game and although the Heat maintained the majority of the possession and created several more scoring opportunities the score remained 1-0 at the half.
Being the second half team that they are UBC Okanagan turned up the intensity and went after the Timberwolves. Kelsey Satterfield pounced on the rebound off of Lindsey Briggs shot and was able to slot the ball passed the UNBC keeper in the 55th minute. Madeleine Greig found the back of the net in the second consecutive game in the 68th minute as she found the ball on her foot after Kelsey Satterfield played it through. Alexa Kennedy scored two more goals in the 70th and 85th minute to cap off the match. At the final whistle it was 5-0 as the Heat continues their undefeated streak with another shut out.
"It was a convincing win and we scored some nice goals,” added head coach Claire Peterson. “We have some really good moments in our play as the ball movement is quite sharp but I am still waiting for us to play a full 90 min like I know we can."
First year forward Madeleine Greig likes that "everyone on the pitch realized at half that we had to step up our game and show UNBC how our team can really play. Like many times before we showed the depth and determination that really drives our team forward."
