For the second straight year the UBC Okanagan Women’s Golf team finished the BCCAA golf season as the top female team in the province. The women’s team, led by Jen Woods whom finished a stellar campaign by capturing her third BCCAA tournament win in just four tournaments played. For her outstanding season Jen was the recipient of the BCCAA female golfer of the year. Jen played great this past weekend at the Capilano University tournament with a two day total 163, six strokes better than the runner up. This follows an outstanding national championship for Jen where she led UBC Okanagan to a silver medal and was named a tournament all star placing fourth overall. Alana Kent, another member of the women’s golf team is in her 2nd year on the UBC Okanagan women’s golf team. Kent finished third overall in the BCCAA women’s golf cumulative standings. The other members of the women’s golf team are Emma Slater, Kayla Mann and Martina Osman.
The men’s team at UBC Okanagan finished the four tournament tour in fifth place overall just 11 strokes behind the fourth place Wolfpack from Thompson Rivers. Keith Marin was the top golfer for UBC Okanagan finishing eleventh overall with a four tournament total of 563 only sixteen strokes from the top of the leaderboard. Sitting just six strokes behind Martin, Nik Jmaeff was eighteenth overall followed by Harvey Hubball finishing the season twenty first. The other members of the UBC Okanagan men’s golf team are: Jace James, William Deck, Don Wheaton, Luc Chase and Rennie Genaille.
The golf team has finished competition for the 2010 season and finished with a provincial gold medal, a national silver medal, the BCCAA golfer of the year, four tournament wins and four BCCAA athletes of the week.
Coach Adrienne Vedan is extremely happy with where the program has gone in the last three years adding most notably the continued success of the women’s program and Jen Woods, “I’m very excited that Jen has had a great year with winning not only the BCCAA Golfer of the Year but also making the National All Star team. The All Star team is a great accomplishment as it is made up of the four top individual women golfers across the country. She has been a great ambassador of our team and the game.”
