Alexa Kennedy and Claire Paterson helped raise the bar for the UBC Okanagan women’s soccer program in 2010 as the Heat won a provincial medal for the first time.
Kennedy, a veteran striker, was named the BCCAA and CCAA player of the year, while Paterson was honoured as both the provincial and national coach of the year.
Kennedy scored 13 goals in 12 conference games, seven of which were game winners.
“Alexa works very hard in training to make herself and those around her better,” said Paterson. “Her teammates look up to her and she leads by example. She has definitely been a key part of our program’s growth over the past two seasons.”
In Paterson’s case, it was her third year at the helm of the Heat women’s program which has gotten progressively better each season.
After missing the playoffs in 2008, UBCO made the post-season for the first time in 2009.
This year, the Heat won the division title with an unbeaten 10-0-2, then went to win its first ever medal, a bronze, at the provincial finals in Surrey.
