WINNIPEG - For the CIS #2-ranked Manitoba Bisons it was just old school power volleyball on Friday night, as they secured their spot in the Canada West Final Four and the CIS national championships with a three-set win over the UBC Okanagan Heat (25-19, 25-20, 25-20). With the win, they took the best-of-three series two games to none.
Leading the Bisons in kills were Dane Pischke and Chris Voth with ten each, two hitters who have led their Bisons team the entire season. The Bisons power at the net was also shown in their blocks, as they outnumbered the Heat in that stat bracket 11-7.
The Heat, who were making their playoff debut and never backed down all weekend, got another big night from Nate Speijer, who racked up 17 kills. The Bisons managed to slow down Riley McFarland after a 20-kill Thursday night, as he worked his way to ten on the night.
With the win, the Bisons men’s volleyball team move on to the Canada West Final Four at Trinity Western starting, February 24. They will play the winner of Alberta and UBC.
