KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat men's and women's basketball programs are pleased to present the 2012 Okanagan High School all-star games this Saturday, March 31 at the Gym on UBC’s Okanagan campus.

The home of the Heat will house four separate all-star games as the best players from the Interior in both the junior and senior divisions will descend on Kelowna to challenge themselves against the other top players in the Interior.

The junior girls will kick things off at 3:30 p.m. with the best junior boys taking the main court at 5:00 p.m. The evening will bring out the senior players; the girls will tip-off at 6:30p.m., and the boys will close the evening up when the all-stars put on a show at 8:15 p.m.

This will be the fourth year in a row the UBC Okanagan men’s and women’s basketball programs have hosted this event and have seen players graduate from the All-Star game to wear the Heat uniform. Last year Emily Kanester played in the girls’ game and scored 21 points, leading all scorers – a great hint at the good things to come in Emily’s rookie season this year for the Heat.

"The all-star game is a great way to showcase all of the talented students playing basketball outside of the Lower Mainland. Many a quality player has played in this game in the past few years, and it’s great to have the opportunity to host this game in Kelowna on our beautiful campus here at UBC Okanagan,” said Darren Semeniuk, who is still involved with the all-star game even though he has stepped down from his Heat coaching position.

Heather Semeniuk, the head coach of Heat women’s basketball, is delighted to bring this collection of talent together. Although she spends countless hours organizing the event she feels the time is well worth it. “I enjoy creating the opportunity for the players to showcase their talents,” shared Semeniuk. “I can tell how excited these kids are to be selected and to play in the all-star game, this is a really big deal for them. Every person I’ve talked to is very excited to be a part of this event.”
