KELOWNA, BC - The Heat notched their first win of the season versus the Kermodes from Quest University. Behind three goals from Austin Jones (3rd year, Vernon, BC), the Heat were able to secure a victory, 3-2.
“I thought we played better today,” said head coach Dante Zanatta. “I thought our finishing was the difference. Austin [Jones] was very clinical in what he did.”
Jones began his offensive assault early, scoring in the 8th minute, and then again in the 35th minute off a nice pass from Jorden Leib (2nd year, Bellingham, WA). Jones then re-opened the scoring in the 48th minute on a great feed by Zach Donaldson-Hall (5th year, Kamloops, BC).
Quest kept the game close, scoring goals in the 20th and 64th minutes, but were unable to score the equalizer. As a result, the Heat earned their first victory of the year with a final score of 3-2.
When asked about what the win meant for his team, Zannata commented: “I’m happy for the players. All the games we’ve played we have put in a good effort and just missed putting the ball in the net. We’re encouraged by the steps taken in the right direction.”
The Heat will wrap up the 2012 regular season on October 20th and 21st, hosting Vancouver Island University and Capilano College. Saturday’s matchup versus VIU will begin at 3 pm at the Nonis Field while Sunday’s game will begin at 2 pm.
