UBC Okanagan def. Thompson Rivers 25-17,25-14,25-12
KELOWNA, B.C. - For the second night in a row, the UBC Okanagan Heat took down the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in straight sets, winning 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-12). The Heat move to 2-0 on the season, while the WolfPack begin the season 0-2.
“It’s nice to get the first couple of wins under our belt,” commented Heat head coach Steve Manuel. “Overall I’m happy with how the team is competing together, and I really like how many players are stepping up and making contributions in different ways.”
A balanced Heat attack saw Kendra Wayling (Middle, 4th year, Castlegar, BC) tally six kills and seven digs, while outside hitters Myrte Schön (4th year, Langley, BC) and Megan Festival (1st year, Calgary, AB) added five and four kills respectively. Freshman setter Emily Oxland (North Vancouver, BC) was a defensive force to be reckoned with in contributing 6 digs, while Katy Klomps (Middle, 2nd year, Surrey, BC) collected two solo blocks and six block assists.
For the WolfPack, Katarina Osadchuck (3rd year, Brisbane, AUS) had seven kills on twenty attempts, while Carly Nelson (2nd year, Victoria, BC) and Hillary Schell (1st year, Kelowna, BC) added three kills each apiece.
Both teams will continue the 2012-2013 Canada West season next weekend, November 2nd and 3rd. Thompson Rivers will travel to Brandon to face the Brandon University Bobcats, while UBC Okanagan will continue their early season home-stand, hosting the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
