KELOWNA, BC - The UBC Okanagan Heat seemed to have found their shooting stroke over the exam break, after posting a series of putrid shooting performances to close out the first semester the Heat shot nearly 60% from the field as they dismantled the visiting MacEwan Griffins 101-52 in an exhibition contest Saturday night in Kelowna.

The Heat welcomed back their pair of veteran Vancouver guards, Yassine Ghomari and Brad Quevillon, both backcourt players contributed on the scoresheet in their return to action. Ghomari was the third leading scorer with 13 points in 15 minutes.  Quevillon notched 8 points on 2-5 from beyond the arc.

The big men led the way for the home squad with second year post Julian Asselstine throwing down 21 points, shooting 6-7 from the floor and 8-10 from the charity stripe. Dave Mackay was a rebounding monster hauling in a game high 12 rebounds, he added 14 points to complete the double-double.

The Griffins lost five players at the break to academics, including their top three scorers and played the game with essentially a brand new team in the matchup.

One of the new players this semester, Alain Moy’ele, led the young squad from Edmonton with 13 points, Tyson Denhammer was the Griffins second leading scorer with 9 points (3-3 from three).

The two teams will scrimmage on Sunday with the Heat roaring back to their Canada West conference schedule as they will be back in action Saturday January 5 at 7 p.m. in Kamloops when they square off against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
