Men’s Rugby 7s
Friday March 1st, 2013
Westhills Stadium, Langford B.C
Game 1: Guelph Gryphons def. UBC Okanagan Heat 22-0
Game 2: UBC Okanagan Heat def. RMC (Royal Military College of Canada) 7-5
Game 3: Waterloo Warriors def. UBC Okanagan Heat 21-15
Game 4: University of Victoria Norsemen def. UBC Okanagan Heat 33-7
With Day 1 in the books, the Heat will head into Day 2 with a 1-3 record after three games in Pool A. Opening versus a tournament favourite and 2012 champions in Western, UBC Okanagan gave the Mustangs a hard-fought battle, but were unable to eclipse the ‘Stangs. Not an hour and a half later, the Heat faced off against RMC, a squad they defeated last year 29-12. A defensive battle saw the Heat emerge victors to earn their first victory of the tournament.
Looking to keep the ball rolling in Pool A, the Heat then squared off against the Waterloo Warriors. Being only the second game of the day for the Warriors was arguably the distance, as fatigue seemed to keep the Heat from overtaking Waterloo in a close loss for UBC Okanagan. The fourth game versus the Norsemen squad from the University of Victoria ended Day 1 for the Heat with a 33-7 loss.
Day 2 for the men will begin tomorrow morning at 10:28 a.m in a rematch versus RMC in the Bowl Semi-Final

Women’s Rugby 7s
Friday March 1st, 2013
Westhills Stadium, Langford B.C
Game 1: University of Victoria Vikes def. UBC Okanagan Heat 27-12
Game 2: McMaster Marauders def. UBC Okanagan Heat 24-5
Game 3: Guelph Gryphons def. UBC Okanagan Heat 53-0
Game 4: University of Alberta Pandas def. UBC Okanagan Heat 30-0
Playing in one of the toughest pools in the tournament, the UBC Okanagan began Day 1 of the tournament against the host Vikes from the University of Victoria. A strong showing early versus a balanced Vikes team had the Heat feeling confident early, but the Heat could not surpass Victoria in a close 27-12 loss. The Heat would put in a valiant effort versus McMaster and tournament favourites and Canadian rugby powerhouses Guelph (2012 champions) and Alberta, but the women from UBC Okanagan were unable to secure a Day 1 victory.
The Heat will begin Day 2 tomorrow morning at 9:00 versus the Vikes in the Shield semi-final.
