The people spoke. The voices were heard. The ballots were tabulated. The judges consulted. And all others did not compare.
The overwhelming response for the new UBC Okanagan Heat mascot was to call the new mascot SCORCH!

Is UBC's Okanagan campus big enough for two mascots?
A (Proverbial) fireside chat with Scorch and Ogi
JS: Ogi, what was your reaction when you heard the news that Scorch was joining the mascot team at UBC Okanagan?
Ogi: I guess you could say I was a bit hot and bothered. Ogi doesn't share the fame with just anyone. But we hit it off right away.
JS: Scorch, what factors do you believe influenced your decision to come to UBC Okanagan? I know you had a lot of offers to go elsewhere.
Scorch: That sun! Plus the students are the best. Everyone is always giving me high-fives and fist-bumps.
JS: Ogi, you've worked the crowds for many years by yourself here at UBC Okanagan. What's it been like to sort-of "share" the glory now with Scorch on the team?
Ogi: Sometimes we step on each other's toes, but it's all good. I usually beat him when we play games in between the sets.
JS: Scorch, what do you say to the detractors that say both Ogi and you have too big of personalities to work together?
Scorch: Haters gonna hate. Ogi and I get along great! Even when I totally win our mini-games. You can't contain the flame!
JS: Ogi, not many teams have two mascots. Has it been difficult to find the balance between Scorch and you when you are helping the crowd get into it?
Ogi: It's a bit of good-cop, bad-cop. I'm like the respected, much loved veteran and Scorch is like the rookie who marches to the beat of his own drum. We play off each others strengths.
JS: Ogi, do you feel adding a second mascot was the final piece of the puzzle for athletics here at UBC Okanagan? How much of an advantage do you feel it is for the teams here at UBC Okanagan?
Ogi: With Scorch on the team, I feel we really get things fired up.
JS: Scorch, many people have called you a "hot head" at times. What is your response to those allegations?
Scorch: What's wrong with being a hot head?!? I just love watching our teams play!
JS: Ogi, what is your response to those allegations?
Ogi: I can neither confirm nor deny beginning any such rumours.
JS: Scorch, some people have said the crowds at UBC Okanagan to start last season were lackluster. What is your response to that claim?
Scorch: I was promised a big turnout when I signed on for UBCO. Were you at the UBCO vs. UBCVan game? The turnout MADE that game. Everyone does better with a big crowd cheering them on.
JS: Ogi, what is the offseason going to be like for Scorch and you? Are you working on anything specifically for next season? Choreographed dances? Tshirt cannon?
Ogi: It's peak time to make an appearance or two for some tourists in the summer, but we're working on some surprises to make the next season even bigger and better than the last.
JS: Finally, to wrap it up. Scorch, give me some predictions on how the Heat are going to do next year
Scorch: I'm looking forward to another great season in my second year at UBCO. GO HEAT!
