Kelowna, BC - Heat goalkeeper Logan Ellis (2nd year, Calgary, AB) stole the show Sunday at Nonis Sports Field, coming up with two huge saves at crucial moments of the match to preserve the Heat's 2-0 victory versus the Capilano Blues.
"My confidence is way higher now," said Ellis. "Especially after yesterday."
After Enzo Paal (1st year, Coldstream, BC) opened the scoring up in the 6th minute to give the Heat a 1-0 lead, the game became a back-and-forth battle that resulted in numerous chances for both teams. The 22nd minute saw Jagdeep Sangha (2nd year, Squamish, BC) with a golden opportunity on the Heat doorstep not four yards out, but Ellis would stone him point-blank to preserve the Heat's 1-0 lead.
Logan would then come up with another huge save in the 75th minute off a free-kick by Andre Pietramala (2nd year, Port Moody, BC). Lucas Krivak (1st year, Port Moody, BC) would seal the win for the Heat in the 85th minute off a great pass by Giovanni Carida (1st year, Coquitlam, BC). Final score: 2-0 in favour of the Heat.
It was great showing by many first and second year players for the Heat, and when asked about their performance, Heat head coach Dante Zanatta was anything but surprised by their performance.
"I've known these guys for years," said Zanatta. "I know they're skilled. It's just a matter of getting used to the pace of the game, but the future is bright for our young players."
The Heat will resume the 2013 PACWEST season on the road next weekend, heading to Surrey, BC to face the Kwantlen Eagles on Saturday, September 14th and then Coquitlam, BC to face Douglas College on Sunday, September 15th.
