COQUITLAM, BC - Haylee Lakovic's (1st year, West Kelowna, BC) goal in the third minute opened the offensive floodgates for the Heat, as they dismantled the host Douglas College Royals to the tune of 3-0 Sunday at Coquitlam Towncentre.
"It was definitely a well fought match," said Lakovic following the game. "It got very physical but we kept composed and we played how we know how to and came out with a well deserved win."
Lakovic followed up on her goal in the third minute with another in the 21st, and Michelle Smith (3rd year, Vernon, BC) put the finishing touches on the match after converting a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Christine Tallon (4th year, Kamloops, BC) earned a second clean sheet in as many days, looking fully recovered from the concussion she suffered in pre-season.
"We battled for 90 minutes and were rewarded for our efforts," commented head coach Claire Paterson. "It was an extremely physical match, but we did well to keep our composure and focus during the game."
When asked about what she was feeling following the first goals of her collegiate career, Haylee Lakovic said it "felt amazing...I haven't felt that good about a goal in a long time."
The Heat now remain undefeated over the first four games of the season, and currently sit with a record of 3-0-1.
The Heat will return to the road next weekend, traveling to Richmond and Squamish to face Langara College on Saturday, September 21st and Quest University Sunday, September 22nd. Both games are scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
