A double header of rugby this past Saturday (Sep 21) at the Parkinson Rec Centre saw the UBC Okanagan Heat men’s rugby fall to the visiting Bayside Rugby Football Club 39-9 in their second league match of the Division 1 BC Okanagan Spring Brewery League.
The men, outsized by the older, heavier Bayside squad played well in the first half, but only managed two penalty kicks off the foot of Sam Overton, and hit the break down 11, 17-6. The Heat wore down physically as the game played into the second stanza, and had some chances at a try. Cole Mosychuk with a great chance late in the game but was unable to get all the way around the end.
The women’s UBC Okanagan heat rugby team also played on the Saturday and triumphed over the Kelowna Crows women’s rugby team by a score of 36-17.
The Heat men play this Saturday (Sep 28) in Kamloops versus the RFC, gametime is 2:30 p.m. The women will next see action on Saturday (Oct 5) when they host the United Rugby Club from Coquitlam at the Parkinson Rec Centre game at 10 a.m. The men will host on October 5th at the Parkinson Rec Centre at 2:30 p.m. when they try and fend off the Surrey Beavers.
