SQUAMISH, BC - When it rains, it pours - a good metaphor for the offensive showing by the Heat Sunday versus the Quest Kermodes on rainy day in Squamish. Despite the weather, the Heat offense remained red-hot in a 4-1 trouncing of Quest University, totalling seven goals in the two wins this weekend.
Austin Jones (4th year, Vernon, BC) got the Heat on the board early in the first half, scoring on a perfectly placed through ball by Enzo Paal (1st year, Coldstream, BC) in the 10th minute. Lucas Krivak (1st year, Port Moody, BC) added a second goal a short time after to push the lead to 2-0, and the Heat would maintain the lead heading into the half.
However, not even five minutes into the second-half, Quest would score off a free-kick from Noah DeRappard-Yuswack (1st year, Vancouver, BC) to cut the lead to 2-1, putting the Heat on their heels.
"At 2-1, we could definitely see Quest believing they could come back," said Jorden Leib.
However, Krivak quickly put that notion to rest, scoring less than a minute after the DeRappard-Yuswack goal to re-establish the two-goal lead, completely deflating Quest. Leib would put the finishing touches on the game with another goal to solidify the 4-1 victory.
"The boys controlled the vast majority of the game," said Heat head coach Dante Zanatta post-game. "There were only a few instances on set pieces where I felt we weren't as strong."
After almost letting one get away Saturday versus Langara, the Heat made sure to keep the gas pedal firmly pressed for the entirety of their match versus Quest.
"We possessed the ball really well," added Leib. "We put lots of pressure on [Quest] and gained a lot of control in the 18 yard area."
With the win, the Heat extend their win-streak to three games, and now boast a record of 4W-1l-1D. Quest, meanwhile, falls to 0W-4L-2D
The Heat will resume play next weekend, traveling to Nanaimo to face the Vancouver Island University Mariners on Saturday, September 28th, and then to North Vancouver to face the Capilano Blues on Sunday, September 29th. Saturday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m., while Sunday's is scheduled for 2 p.m.
HEAT NOTES: This team seems to have found the scoring touch, through their first six games the Heat have tallied 14 goals, last season the Heat amassed just 16 - in 14 games. The Heat didn’t reach 14 goals until the final game last year, a 4-1 victory in Kelowna over Capilano on October 21, 2012.
