HUMBER TO HOST THE RUN FOR CCAA CROSS COUNTRY NATIONAL GOLD
ETOBICOKE: The course is set, and the competitors are en route to Humber College for the 2013 New Balance Toronto Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championship. This prestigious event, boasts the largest participant base of the CCAA schedule, with 254 runners from 35 schools across Canada.
The race, which takes place on Saturday, November 9, 2013, will start on the Humber Valley Field, wind through the scenic Humber Arboretum before returning to the Valley Field with what should be a energetic run to the finish line.
The women’s race, a distance of 5 kilometers, will commence at 11:00 am. The men’s contest, 8 kilometers in length, will follow shortly after, and begin at 12:00 noon.
A special 5 kilometer community run will also accompany the day agenda, with a 1:30 pm start. A $15.00 entry fee will be charged, with the entire proceeds from the race being donated to the “Right To Play” organization. Registration for the community race will be accepted right up until race time.
Humber Hawks, the host team, have experienced significant success over the past few years, with both the men’s and women’s team winning team bronze medals at last year’s championship event in Montreal. The Hawks women were the 2011 CCAA national champions.
Clint Smith of Fanshawe College, the two-time OCAA champion and last year’s CCAA individual silver medalist, will lead the Falcons charge in hopes of securing their second straight national team crown.
Grant MacEwan, the 2012 women’s national championship team from Edmonton, will not be defending the team title, but will be represented by two runners at this year’s event.
