Once again the UBC Okanagan student athletes took time out of their busy schedules to lend a hand to the community, as all Heat teams sent volunteers to the Real Canadian Superstore at 2280 Baron Road in the annual Stuff a Bus campaign.
The event that was presented by BC Transit, Kelowna Regional Transit and 99.9 Sun FM utilized Heat volunteers all day Saturday and Sunday to load food on the bus and engage the public in spreading the word on how filling the bus full of food will help those in need at a time of year when it is most helpful.
After the weekend all involved contributed to make this the most successful stuff a buss ever, with over $41, 000 worth of food that tallied over 16 thousand pounds that will go directly to the shelves of the Kelowna and West Kelowna food banks.
In addition to the food approximately $5,800 was also collected by Kelowna's Bell Media group of radio stations - which includes AM1150, EZ Rock and SUN-FM.
The Executive Director of the food banks, Lenetta Parry, was impressed with the giving of the people and excited that it was the best ever.
