KELOWNA, BC – The final tune-up for the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s soccer team was played Thursday evening with the UBC Okanagan Heat dispatching a visiting Douglas College Royals team 3-0 on the Nonis Sports Field at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
The young Heat dominated the ball, controlling the majority of passion throughout the 90 minutes, rookie forward Courtney Hemmerling (Kelowna, BC) was all over the Douglas defenders and scored her second goal of the preseason.
The Heat’s second goal was an own-goal from Douglas, and team captain and senior defender Hayley Carlson (Red Deer, AB) scored to secure the victory.
After taking the September long weekend off the Heat will be on the road for their first Canada West action with a pair of games in Prince George (Sep 6-7) versus the UNBC Timberwolves.
The first home CIS action to ever be played on the Nonis field in Kelowna will be on Friday September 12 when UBC Okanagan hosts the Fraser Valley Cascades. The fast paced action will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday night.
