Women finish 2nd and the men finish 4th this past weekend at Northview Golf Club.

SURREY, BC – Second year golfer Carolyn Lee (2nd yr, Calgary, AB) played a 78 on the opening day of the opening PACWEST tournament to have a tie for the lead heading into the final round on Sunday. Lee shot an 83 on day-two to finish with a two-day score of 161 and a fourth place finish.
Her hot first day golfing propelled her team into a second place finish with a score of 326, the defending national champion Fraser Valley Cascades shot a 158 on both days to capture the season’s first tournament.
Individually the Cascades finished one-two with Kelly Dalzell shooting (78, 79-157) and Jen Woods with a (80, 79-159), Vancouver Island’s Hannah Diamond grabbed third in front of Lee with a (80, 80-160).
On the men’s side of the draw UBC Okanagan finished fourth as a team with a (300, 298) 598. The Cascades won the men’s tournament as well 34 strokes ahead of the Heat.
Defending provincial champion Will Deck, who won the opening tournament last season, had the hot hand on the Saturday finishing just three strokes off the pace of leader Connor O’Dell with a 71. Connor however, continued atop the leaderboard finishing Sunday with a tournament low 68, while Deck slid on Sunday to ninth overall with a 75 to give him a two-day total of 146.
James Casorso improved his 74 on Saturday by two strokes to finish with a total of 146 to tie Deck at ninth, this was the second year golfer’s best ever finish for UBC Okanagan.
Casorso and Deck are the two holdovers from last year’s squad, new to the team are Kelowna native, Casey Sullivan (78, 72-150), Cody Boekestyn (77, 79-156) from Cranbrook and Nick Krystal (78, 84-162) from Port Moody to round out the five-some that finished fourth over the weekend.
This upcoming weekend (Sep 13-14) the Heat will once again be on the road for the second PACWEST tournament of the year. The Morningstar Golf Club will host the PACWEST the 36-hole tournament starting Saturday and finishing up Sunday.
