UBC Okanagan Heat women’s soccer recruits keeper Joella Koblischke out of George Elliot for the 2015-16 season
KELOWNA, B.C. – Heat women’s soccer coach Claire Paterson once again stayed stayed close to home for her first class of 2015 recruit in Joella Koblischke from George Elliot Secondary School.
The 5-11 Lake Country native will join a bevy of young players on the Heat roster who will all compete for time in the net following the departure of fifth-year starter Christine Tallon (Kamloops, BC).
“With the graduation of Christine Tallon this season it has been imperative for us to organize the next crop of stellar netminders,” said Paterson. “Joella has many of the great attributes that can lead to her becoming a very good goalkeeper for us—size, athletic ability, and a fantastic desire to be better.”
The former Provincial MVP is a product of the Shel Brodsgaard Advanced Island Keeper Clinic every summer, and has been mentored and trained by Taryn Swiatek, a previous goaltender for the Canadian Women’s National Team.
Koblischke is also a product of the Okanagan Whitecaps Academy, with whom she has trained for the past two fall and winter seasons.
Her playing history includes four years with the Thompson Okanagan Football Club in the BCSPL from 2010-2014.
Koblischke describes herself as a keeper who likes to “come out of the goal to attack the ball, close down the angles, and intimidate shooter. I’m not afraid to slide under people’s cleats to get the ball. I am a very motivated and determined player.
The soon-to-be Heat athlete will enter into the Human Kinetics program come September and has been motivated to play in Canada West for quite some time. “I am excited to play CIS-level soccer as well as play for my hometown,” she said. “I am also looking forward to receiving Claire and Kai Tolpinrund’s [Heat goalkeeper coach] great coaching.”
“It is great to have another top local talent decide to stay home to play and develop further,” concluded Paterson.
