Heat once again part of a team that raised money for the Heart & Stroke Foundation

For the second straight spring a number of student athletes at UBC Okanagan are finding ways to give back.

Three UBC Okanagan Heat student athletes were able to ride for charity while a few others not able to ride due to other commitments, helped to fund raise as part of the Okanagan Sports Network ‘Team’ on Wednesday May 27. The team was once again put together by local media sports personality, and host of Heating Up on Shaw TV Okanagan's Go! Okanagan program, Ryan Watters.

Two from men's basketball Mitch Goodwin and Dario Gini, and an outside hitter, Siobhan Fitzpatrick, from the back-to-back Canada West championship participant, the Heat women's volleyball team, were able to make the ride. Alison Gill and Olivia Johnson raised funds for the cause from women's volleyball and women's basketball teams' respectively helped raise money but did not ride ‘The Big Bike' on Wednesday.

The  30 seat bicycle, weighing in at over 1,900 lbs., did a lap around downtown Kelowna Wednesday during the noon hour starting and ending at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. The Ryan Watters / Okanagan Sports Network Team, made up of 11 different Okanagan sports teams combined to raise $1,105 for the charity and during the ride the 28 'Team' members cheered and pedaled all to raise funds and awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The Heat joined other athletes from locals teams such as: Okanagan College Coyotes, Kelowna Falcons, Kelowna Raiders, West Kelowna Warriors, Okanagan Rockets, and members of teams from KSS, OKM, and Mount Boucherie.
