The men’s and women’s UBC Okanagan Heat soccer teams will each play two games this upcoming weekend.
KELOWNA, BC – The women’s side are on the road for the second straight weekend after scrimmaging the University of Calgary last weekend, the men will head to Kamloops for their first action of the year.
Playing at a preseason tournament hosted by the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, the Heat, will play a single game on Saturday (Aug. 22), versus the MacEwan Griffins at 9 a.m.*, and another match on Sunday (Aug. 23), this time against the Douglas Royals at 11 a.m.* Both matches, and the rest of the preseason tournament will be played at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.
This will be UBC Okanagan’s head coach Dante Zanatta’s first look at his squad in action against other Canada West opponents. Zanatta, entering his fifth season guiding the Kelowna squad, looks to make another push into the Canada West post season.
The women scrimmaged twice last weekend against the Dinos and coach Claire Paterson will continue to juggle lineups and identify her top combos this Saturday and Sunday in La Grande, Oregon as Eastern Oregon University host the Heat at the EOU kickoff showcase.
Saturday at 1 p.m. on the EOU Soccer Field, UBC Okanagan will playing a neutral field match versus the College of Idaho Lady Yotes, an NAIA team in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC). On Sunday the Heat will take on the host school in a scrimmage, another CCC member, in the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers, at 12 p.m.
Upcoming the UBC Okanagan men will host a preseason tournament next weekend as they host Thompson Rivers, Saskatchewan, and Douglas with matches both Friday (Aug. 28) and Saturday (Aug. 29) on both days matches will be played on the Nonis Sports Field at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The women will close out their preseason next weekend at home on the Nonis Sports Field with an Alumni game on Saturday August, 29 at 1 p.m.
