Men’s & Women's Golf (PACWEST Conference play – Tournament #3)

VICTORIA, BC – Third year Heat golfer Carolyn Lee shot her two best rounds of the year and the two best on the PACWEST women's tour this season, she carded a pair of 76s to capture her second tournament of the season at Bear Mountain in Victoria this past Saturday - Sunday. With the tournament win Lee is named the PACWEST athlete of the week.
Lee's 152 was three strokes better than Fraser Valley's Hannah Dirkson, who won last weekend, the only tournament Lee hasn't captured this season. But Lee's dominance wasn't the talk of the UBC Okanagan women's golf team that distinction went to first year golfer Lauren Siemers.
Siemers, a 2015 Mount Boucherie grad, finished third in the tournament and was delighted her team and had the most exciting moment of her golf career when she aced the fourth hole on Sunday at Bear Mountain.
"Definitely the most excited I've ever been on the course, I didn't actually see it go in so there was a lot of suspense heading up the green," said Lauren.
Siemers, golfing with teammate Lee on Sunday, made her hole in one on an elevated green and nobody in the foursome knew it was an ace until they found the ball in the hole.
Lee, who self described her own play over the tournament as "pretty good", with a caveat that her short game gave her troubles, described the hole in one as such.
"I thought she jarred it into the hole. We couldn't see it," Lee explained, "all we heard was the sound of a ball hitting the flagpole. It was really cool moment."
The moment was heightened as they approached the green with one less ball visible. "It was super cool," exclaimed Lee. "Driving up I was a bit worried it hit the pin and went flying somewhere. When we realized she had a hole in one there was a lot of cheering!"
The rest of the Heat men's team finished as follows: Jaocb Stewart (72-71, 143 +7 t6th); Grant Dallovoet (7-74, 148 +12 t14th) then Sullivan (79-76, 155 +19 23rd); and Oliver Rizun (75-81, 156 +20 T24th) counted in.
Up next for UBC Okanagan will be final PACWEST tournament of the year this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 3-4) at the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club, which is also the site of the CCAA National Championships held October 13-16, both hosted by the University of Fraser Valley.
