Heat are cooled off in Brandon by Bobcats

Brandon knocks the leather off the ball in the first set and go on to sweep the Friday match over UBC Okanagan. The Heat have a chance for the split on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. (PST).

BRANDON - The Brandon University men's volleyball team n three sets took down the UBC Okanagan Heat at the Healthy Living Centre on Friday night.

The Bobcats swept the Heat in straight sets to boost their record to 4-and-5 on the Canada West season and look to sweep the series with the rematch on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. (PST)

The set scores were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18.

Captain Roy Ching collected a double-double for Brandon with a match-high 17 kills and 11 digs, while teammate Bruce Akubukaka was next with 13 kills.

BU rookie Reece Dixon delivered 38 assists, Jeremy Davies had 15 digs and fellow Bobcat Daven Pascal put up five blocks, with all three leading the match in those respective categories.

Lars Bornemann was the top scorer for the Heat with eight kills and 10 digs.

Jim Bell and Alex Swiatlowski added seven kills apiece in a losing cause for  UBC Okanagan, who saw their record slip to 1-and-8.

The host Bobcats weren't all that hospitable as they got to the technical timeout first in all three sets with the Heat only able to challenge in the second set.

Jim Bell made the trip and klayed in all three sets, still recovering from an injury, bell came off the bench as rookie Devon Cote received the start. Kristof Schlagintweit and Ethan Freund split the setting duties, Schlagintweit finished with 14 assists to Freund's 11.

Brandon outscored UBCO 59-33 and hit .340 on the night compared to .143 for the Heat. Brandon started off impressive out-killing UBCO 18-5 in the first set, scoring on half of their attacks.
