Kelowna BC - The UBC Okanagan women’s basketball team ended their third weekend of regular games with two wins against the Mount Royal Cougars giving them a (5-1 record) and a tie for first place in the Canada West standings. The Heat will be traveling to Edmonton to play MacEwan this weekend. The first game of the weekend series will take place on Friday, November 27th at MacEwan University gymnasium with tip off scheduled for 5 p.m. (PST) The second game will follow on Saturday November 28th with a start time of 4 p.m. (PST)
Key Players- Senior Emily Kanester is averaging 14 points per game making her a threat from the field for the Heat, she also is consistently shooting from the free throw line bumping up her average from 85% to 88 %, putting her in fourth place in that category. Kayla McFadden finished the weekend off with a combined 14 points and seven rebounds. Coming off of the bench, Shenelle Tamminen is effectively shooting from the field going 3-6 (50%) from the field in Friday night’s game against the Cougars and 2-5 from the three point line on Saturday night. Tamminen finished the weekend off with 15 points.
Keys - A classic matchup of two styles the Heat are a strong defensive team giving up just 54.8 points per game whereas the Griffins are averaging 78.8 points every night out.
Head to Head - (1-3) The Griffins have only been in the league for just one year, last year they defended their home court for two wins (L 69-67, L 77-61) and split in Kelowna (L 78-58, W 85-80 OT).

MacEwan Griffins - The Griffins have had a great start to their season, only losing one game against Fraser Valley in the regular season. The Griffins will be looking to keep their winning streak alive, as the Kelowna squad will travel to Edmonton to play the Griffins this weekend.
Current Form- The Griffins go into this game with a 5-1 record and are tied with the Heat for first place in the Canada West standings.
Key Players - Megan Wood is leading the Griffins in scoring averaging 19 points per game, she also is consistently shooting 52% (48-92) from the field, putting her in first place in that category. Wood also providing her team with three points shooting she stands in first place for that category shooting (11-20 55%) putting her in the first spot for that category. Kendall Lydon is also putting up big numbers from the field shooting 9-18 50% from the field against Thomson Rivers in Friday nights game. Lydon finished the weekend series with a combined 29 points and sits at eighth place in Canada West for free throw shots with an 85%.
Melissa Moore combined for 19 points in the weekend series against Thomson Rivers and shot 50% from the field in Friday night’s game. Angela Driscoll was able to capture a team high of 11 points in Saturday night’s game against the WolfPack. The Cougars are allowing 82.8 points per game. The two game series could be decided by who shoots it better from outside. The Heat (27-88) and Cougars (23-87) are 4th and 5th respectively in made threes on the season.

Key performers: Fourth-year point guard Kendall Lydon, Chehalis, WA, a Griffins co-captain, is a go-to veteran who can keep the team level headed and on-task under pressure. The Arts student is a threat from the three-point line as well as a strong decision-maker on the floor.
Fifth-year forward Megan Wood, Edmonton, AB is a gifted scorer on the inside and on three's. The Arts student has a high basketball IQ, as well as another solid decision-maker on the court and team co-captain.
Fifth-year forward Kelly Fagan, St. Albert, AB has matured into an elite Canada West basketball player. In the Griffins' freshmen year in Canada West, Fagan was named a second-team Canada West All-Star. The science student broke a Canada West record with 64 blocked shots in a single season. The team co-captain is also a scoring threat and provides a strong defensive presence, as she was a top four conference offensive rebounder in 2014/15.

"We will work hard for each other and with each other, and are looking forward to building on the success that Coach Rob Poole and our 2014/15 team started for us."
Key storyline: The Griffins begin a new chapter under first-year head coach David Oldham, with eight new players and seven veterans. In their 2014/15 inaugural Canada West season MacEwan University made the first round of playoffs with cross-town rivals, the University of Alberta Pandas. The Pandas took the series 0-2.
Coach Oldham and the Griffins had a busy and successful pre-season, of those games MacEwan University went 3-2 against fellow Canada West programs.
"We are committed to the daily process of getting better, paying attention to the little details, and executing well on the floor," Coach Oldham said.
