The third year player of the Heat women's golf team receives a top award and national distinction for the second straight year.
KELOWNA, B.C. -- Carolyn Lee, who won an individual national championship while leading the UBC Okanagan women's golf team this past season earned an Academic All-Canadian award from the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) for her accomplishments this past season. This is the second straight Academic All-Canadian for the junior golfer from Calgary, Alberta.
With only the UBC Okanagan golf program still in the CCAA there were only eight student athletes of Heat varsity teams even eligible for the CCAA’s most prestigious student-athlete honour.
Carolyn's third year was once again outstanding: she had a great year on top of her national gold medal Carolyn was a Provincial All-Star, and an All-Canadian and a National Tournament All Star, all for the second straight year. For the third straight year she earned a PACWEST academic excellence award all while leading her Heat women's golf team to a Provincial Gold medal and a National Silver medal.
Carolyn attributes her involvement in college sport as a contributor to her success at school.
"Golf has taught me a lot about perseverance and hard work," says Lee. "These characteristics have transferred to my studies. Being a student athlete has also improved my time management skills which help me stay on top of my school work."
April 8, 2016 – The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association is proud to announce the 2015-16 CCAA Academic All-Canadian award recipients. This year, 155 student-athletes have achieved combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics.
The CCAA Academic All-Canadian award is the CCAA’s most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing both organizations’ commitment to academic success and athletic achievement.
“The CCAA is proud to recognize and celebrate those student-athletes who’ve attained the highest possible CCAA honour in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence,” said Sandra Murray-MacDonell, CCAA Executive Director.
In addition, the CCAA Academic All-Canadian Recognition Award is presented each year to the institution with the most student-athlete award recipients. For the second straight season, the CCAA is pleased to present the award to Holland College, which had a total of 14 recipients.
