KELOWNA, BC -- Sunday morning on the Labour Day long weekend the chaos of the first year residents moving in to their new home for the next 10 months on the Okanagan campus of UBC was somewhat quelled by the large turnout of UBC Okanagan Heat athletes on hand to assist the new students into their buildings. The move-in begins early on the Sunday—when some 800 first-year students, move into their home-away-from-home for the upcoming academic year—begins at 8:30 a.m.
The extra set of hands on on move-in day has been a long standing tradition for Heat varsity students athletes and the benifits are a two-way street. The new students get to utilize some free labour while the Heat varsity program receives an immediate connection between the student athlete and the rest of the student population.
Having the varsity athletes wear UBC Okanagan team gear also adds a level of school pride to the new students on their exciting first day on campus.
