SATURDAY & SUNDAY:
KELOWNA, BC – The first tournament of the year on the PACWEST golf schedule will take place this weekend (Sept. 10-11) at theLedgeview Golf Course in Abbotsford hosted by the UFV Cascades.
This is the third straight collegiate golf tournament hosted by UFV who closed out last season hosting the provincial championship and the national championships, both of those tournaments were held at the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club.
The Heat squads left those tournaments with a solid medal haul, on the women’s side Carolyn Lee was the national champion and led her team to a national silver medal and a provincial bronze medal. Lauren Siemers was a provincial All-Star last year. On the men’s side the team came home with a provincial bronze and James Casoro was a provincial All-Star.
Lee has moved on to UBC gaining entry into the medicine program in Vancouver and Siemers is on the roster but not competing in the first tournament for UBCO. Casorso is back and had a solid summer winning the Kelowna Open.
Travelling with Casorso on the men’s team will be returning golfers: Jacob Stewart (Calgar, AB), Oliver Rizun (Squamish, BC) and Derek Graham (Kelowna, BC), newcomer, Naoki Takahashi, who is from Tokyo, Japan but went to school in Cenneticut will round out the five travelling this weekend.
Returning to the links for the UBC Okanagan women is Emily Adams (Ladysmith, BC), and Jessica Kozak (West Kelowna, BC) are back and will be joined by newcomer McKenna Lesiuk (Kelowna, BC).
