jbi_7868The UBC Okanagan Heat face two Pacific Division rivals on their trip to the coast. No. 10 UBC is the Friday foe at Thunderbird Stadium  followed by UVIC on Saturday. Both matches slated for 5 p.m.

This week for the Heat: This week marks the fourth week of regular season games for the Heat women’s soccer team. For the first time in three weeks the Heat will be heading on the road as they will take on the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. The First match will take place on Friday (Sept. 30) against UBC with a start time of 5 p.m. at the Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. Followed by a second match on the Island on Saturday (Oct. 1) against the Vikes with a start time of 5 p.m. at Centennial Stadium in Victoria.

Current Form: Coming off of two tough losses at home against the University of Fraser Valley (2-0) and Trinity Western (3-0) the Heat are looking to improve their offense as they now stand at a record of (2-4-0) putting them in the sixth place standing in the Pacific West Division. The Heat will be looking to compete and improve their play as they travel to the coast to play UBC and UVIC.

Key Players: Third year Courtney Hemmerling is still continuing to help build an offensive edge for the Heat. As a forward Hemmerling is leading the way in scoring with three goals so far this season. With two of her three goals also being game winning goals, Hemmerling is second in the CIS for that category.

Team Stat: With the third weekend of regular season finished the Heat is struggling to score. With only seven goals so far this season and an average of 9.3 shots per game the Kelowna squad will be looking to improve their offense on the road this weekend.

Overall Head to Head (W-L-T) vs UBC (0-1-1): The Heat have never won a game against UBC since their entry into the CIS in 2014.

Thunderbirds: On Friday the Heat will play UBC, the Thunderbirds, fifth in the West Division and ranked tenth in Canada.

Current Form: The T-Birds are coming off of a split weekend on the road against UNBC and UofA putting them at a record of (2-1-4). As they are placed seventh in Canada, they will be looking to maintain their play as they spend the weekend at home.

Key Players: Senior, Jasmin Dhanda is making her mark on the field. With four goals and four assists so far this season, Dhanda making a huge impact for the T-birds. Forward, Shayla Chorney is also a force on the field, with two goals so far this season, Chorney is proving her speed offensive edge in front of the net.

Team Stat: With 14 goals scored this season, the T-Birds are showing that they are an offensive threat. From their impressive 14 goals, the T-Birds are also showing that they can distribute the ball. With 14 assists so far this season UBC is currently in seventh for that category.

Vikes : On Saturday the Heat will play the University of Victoria, fourth in the West Division the Vike’s are coming off a win and a tie. The Vikes will be looking to improve their standings this upcoming weekend as they will defend their home turf on Saturday ( Oct. 1) at Centennial Stadium at 5 p.m.

Current Form: The Vikes are coming off of a (0-0) tie against the University of Alberta and a win (3-0) against UNBC.

Key Players: Midfielder, Mia Gunter is proving she is a threat at both ends of the field. With two goals so far this season, Gunter is the leading scorer for the Vikes. Midfielder, Kyra Tweetzen is also performing well for the Vikes, with her first goal of the season against UNBC, Tweetzen is looking to attack the net for her team.

Team Stat: The Vikes are a strong presence on the field and have a strong fan base when playing in Victoria. As the Heat travel to the Island they will have to block out the crowd as the Vikes have the strongest attendance in the CIS. With an average of 649 people attending regular games and some nights as high as 1946 people at games the Heat will have to maintain their composure against the Vikes strong crowd presence.
