PREVIEW: Long last road trip for Heat

ubc_1428Sunday's match versus UNBC moved to Kelowna and a match in Edmonton Friday afternoon versus the Pandas are on tap to wrap up the road schedule for women's soccer.

This week for the Heat: This week marks the sixth week of regular season games for the Heat women’s soccer team.  With only two weeks left of regular season play the Heat will be looking to maintain their winning streak as they will be heading on the road to take on the University of Alberta and the University of Northern British Columbia for the second time this year. The first game of the weekend will be played against UofA on Friday (Oct. 14)  at the Foote Soccer Field in Edmonton with a start time of 3:30 p.m. (PT). Followed by a second match against UNBC on Sunday (Oct. 16) in Prince George with a start time of 12 p.m.

Current Form: Coming off their first ever CIS two-game winning streak against Thompson Rivers University, the Heat are looking to keep their hard work on the field alive as they now stand at a record of (4-6-0). With the Thursday night (2-0) win and Saturday (2-1) win against the ‘Pack the Kelowna squad hold the sixth place standing in the Pacific West Division and a total of 12 points. The Heat will be looking to maintain theier hold on a playoff spot as they will head on the road this weekend.

Key Players: Second year, Lauren Candelario is stepping up for the Heat as she finished the weekend series against Thompson Rivers with her second goal of the season. As a quick midfielder Candelario is quick to attack and ready to assist her team on the defensive line. Cassie Bratton is also assisting the Heat's on the offensive line. With her second goal of the season in Thursday night’s win against the 'Pack, Bratton is using her physicality in the front of the field to her score for her team.

Team Stat: With four goals scored in the previous weekend of play, the Heat have scored a total of 12 goals so far this season and are averaging 11 shots per game.

Overall Head to Head (W-L-T) vs UNBC (2-0-3): This will be the second match of the year against the Timberwolves. With the previous game played in Kelowna in September the Timberwolves will be looking for redemption as the Heat came out with the match with a (3-0) victory over the northern B.C squad.

Overall Head to Head (W-L-T) vs U of A (0-3-0): With a (3-0) loss in early September against the Pandas, the Heat will be looking to improve their play this weekend and go for their first ever win against the Edmonton squad.

Pandas: On Friday the Heat will play the University of Alberta, third in the Pacific Division, the Pandas are currently on a two game winning streak. The Panda’s will be looking to maintain their play this upcoming weekend as they will defend their home turf  against the Heat on Friday (Oct. 14) on Foote Soccer Field in Edmonton at 3:30 p.m. (PT).

Current Form: The Pandas are coming off of a two straight wins over UNBC. With a (3-0) and (1-0) win, the Pandas hold a record of (6-2-2) and have only lost to UFV and TWU this year. As their season is coming to an end the Pandas will be looking to prepare for playoffs as they head into their final weeks of regular season.

Key Players: Midfielder, Aly Parth is a vital asset to the Pandas offensive line. With four goals and two assists so far this season, the Edmonton product is leading the team in goals scored. Junior, Sydney Danies is also a strong presence for the Pandas, with two goals and four assists so far this season the third year forward is relentless when it comes to attacking the net. With 45 shots taken so far this season she is third for that category.

Team Stat: The Pandas are continuing to be a strong presence on the offensive end and so far this season have 18 goals scored and are  averaging 17.3 shots per game putting them tenth in the rankings for that category. With their relentlessness on offence Heat will have to be prepared to battle the Pandas this weekend in Edmonton.

'Wolves: On Sunday the Heat will play UNBC, the Timberwolves, eighth in the Pacific Division and have yet to notch a win on the season and are coming off of two losses and are looking to compete on their home turf as the Heat will go head to head with UNBC in Prince George Sunday (Oct. 16) at 12 p.m.

Current Form: The Timberwolves most recently suffered losses to the University of Alberta at home. With only two weekends left in this season the Timberwolves have four games left in the season as they chase the WolfPack for seventh in the standings.

Key Players: With only two goals scored this season, Tianna Puis and Paige Payne are the leading the way for the Timberwolves with one goal and one assist each. With the season coming to an end, both midfielders will be looking to attack in this weekends series against the Heat.

Team Stat: The Timberwolves are averaging five shots per game and have taken a total of 50 shots this season.
