KELOWNA, BC -- The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer program will be adding Anastazia Ziros, a transfer from Langara College, to the roster next season. Ziros had a very successful freshman season for the Falcons. The first year defender was a conference athlete of the week, named to the PACWEST conference All-Star team, and named Rookie of the Year for women's soccer.
Prior to playing at Langara, Ziros played at Point Grey Secondary in Vancouver and with the Mountain United soccer club, where she won a provincial gold medal.
The 18-year-old centerback is optimistic about the move to UBCO and Kelowna. "I personally chose UBC Okanagan because of the excellent programs it has to offer as well as the tight knit environment at the school and in the area itself, as well as having a few family members who already attend the school," she explained. "I also look forward to playing on the women's soccer team that competed in the CIS as it will be a step up from the PACWEST league that I previously played in at Langara."
Her new coaching staff share her enthusiasm, saying "we are excited about the addition of Anastazia to our program, she comes in with previous college experience which will aid her with transitioning into the CIS. Her previous college experience paired with her time at Mountain United have prepared her well to succeed with our program."
Academically, Anastazia has been a kinesiology student at Langara, and will continue those studies in Kelowna. "My goal at UBC Okanagan is to receive a bachelor's in Human Kinetics and eventually become a physiotherapist."
Ziros is one of six players who will join the UBC Okanagan Heat this fall. Along with Anastazia there are three players from CMF Football Club, Kathleen Deady (Defender), Erica Reis (Midfielder), and Mackenzie Pfof (Striker), and two from the TSS Football Club, Kacee Ougden (Central midfielder) and Jillian Hunt (Centre-back).
