VANCOUVER – The UBC Okanagan Heat trailed the Thunderbirds by just nine points at the half but a disastrous third quarter really set the tone for the 78-48 loss on Saturday at the hands of the UBC Thunderbirds at War Memorial Gym.
The Heat got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 5-0 lead only to see the T-Birds come storming back with a 13 point run. The Heat fought back to take the lead 15-14 late in the first, forcing UBC coach Kevin Hanson to take an early time out.

The UBC Okanagan Heat were unable to contain Jordan Baker as the Canada West first team all-star picked up another double-double en route to leading his University of Alberta Golden Bears to a 87-54 win Saturday night in the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton.
Baker, the fourth leading scorer and second leading rebounder in Canada West, picked up a game high 22 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Bears to the win. Matthew Cardoza, the 2008 Canada West rookie of the year in track and field for Alberta (long jump) had a fine night for Alberta, scoring 14 points and seven rebounds, while fifth-year guard Daniel Ferguson added 13 points.

Missing two key starters the Heat had too big a hill to climb tonight on the Prairies in their matchup against the No. 5 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies, in the end the Huskies used a strong first half en route to a 96-67 win over the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies tallied 52 points in the first half With the win the No. 5 ranked Huskies improve to 8-4 on the season, while the Heat, who joined the Canada West for the 2011-12 season, drop to 2-9. It is the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The Trinity Western University Spartans beat up on the Heat tonight, completing the weekend sweep and taking down the Heat by 27 points, 83-56. The Spartans, who played in the national final last year, added a fourth game to their winning streak tonight, moving them to .500 on the season with a 6-6 record in Canada West. The Heat struggled on both ends of the floor; in the end they were unable to find any offensive rhythm versus the stifling Spartan defense and now fall to 2-8 in conference play.
