Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist is singing the praises of Campus Security after the return of a stolen portable weather station.
Following the recent report of some on-campus thefts at the Mountain Weather Office, Campus Security was able to investigate the events, identify a suspect and liaise with the local RCMP to ensure the item was returned.
The stolen weather station was for the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, who help place small, personal weather stations in public schools to help with science education curriculum.
"Your recovery of that stolen weather station means one more school will benefit from our work. You really don't know how much it means to us that you were able to return it. Thank you!" says Lundquist.
With the dedicated team that's in place, the Campus Security team works hard to ensure the Okanagan campus is a safe place to study, work and live -- especially when there are thefts and crimes reported.
"The team did some great work tracking down these items following their theft and it isn’t the first time," says Mike McGinty, associate director of risk management and security services.
Campus Security is available 365 days per year, with 24 hour, campus-wide coverage, but incidents still can still happen. Make sure you know the on-campus emergency contact phone number: 250-807-8111
