We are very pleased to announce Mr. David Waldron as the Director, Campus Planning and Development at UBC’s Okanagan campus. His experience and background are a great addition to our team and will build upon a strong foundation of work completed over the last few years.
Working with the Okanagan campus stakeholders as well as with Campus Planning and Infrastructure Development colleagues in Vancouver, David will be responsible for long-term land use planning including the Okanagan campus Master Plan, space planning, sustainability, landscape design, transportation initiatives and community building.
David’s start date will be March 27, 2017.
Born and raised in Kelowna, David holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, Civil Engineering, from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Resource Management degree from Simon Fraser University.
David has extensive experience with strategic and sustainability planning, program management and municipal infrastructure development. He has led initiatives for local and regional governments, businesses, non-profits and universities. After commencing his career in Kelowna, David was a municipal engineer and sustainability planner with the Resort Municipality of Whistler until 2003 when he was invited to Sweden to design and direct an international Master’s program for Sustainability.
For the past 11 years, David has been the Principal of Synapse Strategies, an international management consultancy helping to organize and bridge the gap to a sustainable future. As a co-founder, David has helped teams and stakeholders develop strategic and sustainability plans (e.g. David Suzuki Foundation, Capital Regional District), led planning and organizational learning initiatives (e.g. City of San Francisco, Teck) and researched and instructed in the areas of sustainable cities and neighborhoods (e.g. UBC, UC Berkeley).
David is excited about the progress to date, and the future potential, of UBC Okanagan and looks forward to working as a member of the innovative UBC team.
