UBC Okanagan Interim Provost and Vice Principal Academic Patricia Lasserre announced that Barbara Rutherford from the Department of Psychology has been appointed Dean pro tem of Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences, effective August 1, 2018.
Rutherford previously served as Dean pro tem for the School from 2013 to 2015. She follows Dean Wisdom Tettey, who resigned June 30, 2018.
An experienced researcher, who has received funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Rutherford investigates hemispheric interactions of the brain by measuring whether two hemispheres are better, worse, or no different from one.
“I am very pleased that Dr. Rutherford will be bringing a wealth of experience to this position while we search for a new Dean of the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences,” says Lasserre.
Rutherford has a long history at the campus, having served as part of the psychology faculty at Okanagan University College from 1988 to 2005, and then at UBC Okanagan since its creation in 2005.
While serving as Dean pro tem, Rutherford will provide leadership, direction and support to Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences and help facilitate a smooth transition until a new Dean is appointed.
“I am delighted and honoured to work with such a dynamic group, and aim to provide the leadership and support to enable continuation of the remarkable advances and achievements of the School,” says Rutherford.
Faculty and staff are invited to meet Dr. Rutherford at a Pitstop on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in support of the United Way.
