U13 Junior Heat Boys @ Seattle WTA Luau

Parker Johnstone warming up on a court at Hotel in Seattle

Tournament:  Seattle WTA Luau - June 7/8…U 13 Junior Heat Boys

Game 1 - Junior Heat (U13 Boys) 19 vs. Hoopstar (Bellingham) 42

The Heat put forth a great defensive effort in this game, forcing many turnovers, led by Parker Johnstone with 5 steals.  Unfortunately they struggled converting those turnovers into points.  Tanner Balkenhol led the scoring with 8 points.

Game 2 - Junior Heat 29 vs. A-Plus (Seattle) 63

In probably the Heat's best effort of the tournament, they played tough against the eventual tournament champion.  Played even with them for the first 10 minutes and did a great job handling their full court pressure.  A-Plus eventually pulled away as they were too strong and skilled.  Matthew Kopp led the Heat with 10 points.

Game 3 - Junior Heat 15 vs. ESA (Seattle) 66

The Heat struggled on both ends in this game as they had trouble handling the defensive pressure from ESA.  Despite the large point spread, they gave a great effort for the full game, despite losing point guard Tanner Balkenhol to injury.  Mathew Kopp led the way with 10 points.

Game 4 - Junior Heat 37 vs. Kent Lake (Kent, WA) 46

In the Heat's last game of the tournament, they had the best chance to come out with a win but couldn't quite pull it off.  The Heat led most of the first half and the teams exchanged leads early in the 2nd half.  Down the stretch the Heat ran out of gas, had trouble making baskets and Kent Lake pulled away with the win.  Mathew Kopp led with 14 points.

Overall, it was a great experience for the team playing against tough competition, which will surely help in future games.

Next tournament:  3D Western Canada Invitational - June 27-29
