For the second year, UBC is coordinating a mentoring program to support local teachers as they prep their spelling stars for Canspell National Spelling Bee competition. Volunteers with a love of words and the time to mentor at a local school from mid-November through January are needed to run spellers’ study groups and, in some cases, coordinate school spelling bees.
Alumni, faculty, staff and students are welcome to participate. Study groups take place at least once per week for one hour. Scheduling is flexible and will be worked out between volunteers and their schools. Groups run for approximately ten weeks.
This is an opportunity to lend a hand to and connect with local teachers, schools and kids. Anyone who enjoys bright minds and is looking for an entertaining and heart-warming volunteer experience should contact Erica Triggs in Alumni and University Relations to sign up or find out more.
