Business team beats some of the best in the world at international event
It may not be one of the oldest business schools around, but students have proven it to be one of the best.
University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus Faculty of Management students recently brought home a third-place trophy from the prestigious Manitoba International Marketing Competition at the University of Manitoba.
The five students, Alexandra Upward, from West Vancouver; Akhil Gupta, from North Vancouver; Andreea Bianchi, from Westbank; Shelby Burgart, from Penticton; and Manuel Leckel, an international student from Schrobenhausen, Germany, competed against schools from around the world.
This is the third year of competition for a Faculty of Management team: the first year they did not place, last year they came in fourth, and third this year.
Each team had to build a company from scratch, each starting with the same amount of money, material and whatever was needed to build the fictitious corporation.
Leckel explains each team had eight weeks to build the company before heading to Winnipeg to make their presentation at the competition.
Mexico was the overall winner, but all five Okanagan students were very pleased with their placement.
