The end of the summer marks an important tradition at UBC Okanagan: the bestowing of the annual Staff Awards of Excellence
The awards are part of the annual end-of-summer welcome back events for staff and faculty, which also features the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal’s Town Hall and a barbecue for all employees.
The awards are given to employees who exemplify one of four categories: Global Citizenship, Sustainability, Leadership and Enhancing the UBC Experience or Customer Service.
This year six employees were recognized: Robert Buonomo, Angela Sali, Paula Lambert, Renee Leboe, Liz Hilliard and Shannon Dunn.
Facilities Service Worker Robert Buonomo was recognized for Enhancing the UBC Experience for the effort and services he provides every day. He’s described by his nominators as thoughtful, effective and having an encyclopedic knowledge of campus.
Payroll and Benefits Specialist Angela Sali and Payroll and Benefits Administrator Paula Lambert were also recognized for Enhancing the UBC Experience. Sali and Lambert were described as a remarkable duo that only ensures that the day-to-day payroll operations move forward, but are also educators and role models for their colleagues.
Academic Advisor Renee Leboe was recognized for her Global Citizenship. Her nominator recognized Renee’s ability to effectively support students, manage collaborations with important community partners and help support the transition to life in Canada for the School of Engineering’s many international students.
Manager of Student Engagement Liz Hilliard was recognized for her leadership in the Student Experience Office. Liz’s nominators talked endlessly about the many ways she has created an inclusive, comfortable environment — while meeting every challenge with enthusiasm and grace.
Director of Business Operations Shannon Dunn was recognized with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal’s award for her exceptional contributions to the Okanagan campus and community at large. Her nominator points out the importance of the 12 years that her loyalty, professionalism, stamina and commitment has meant to UBC Okanagan and its students.
Congratulations to all six winners, and the significant impacts they have made to UBC Okanagan.
