Dear colleagues,
I am writing to let you know that a global search for the next Dean of the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences will begin shortly.
As set out in UBC Policy 21, an Advisory Committee will consider and advise the President on the candidates before the President makes a recommendation to the Board of Governors. I will chair the committee, and Boyden Executive Search has been retained to assist the committee in the search for highly qualified candidates.
The Advisory Committee will include four faculty members elected by and from faculty members in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences, four people appointed by the President, and an undergraduate student and a graduate student from the Barber School.
Input from the campus community is encouraged. An open forum will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on September 25 in the University Centre Ballroom, room UNC200, and your comments about the Dean search are also welcome via email to Cara Kirkey (cara.kirkey@ubc.ca) in the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal’s office.
We will provide updates as the Advisory Committee is appointed and the candidate selection process continues.
Sincerely,
Prof. Deborah Buszard
UBC Deputy Vice-Chancellor
Principal, UBC Okanagan
