Request for expressions of interest: UBC Okanagan Campus Master Plan

December 1, 2004

The University of British Columbia Okanagan invites letters of expression of interest from interested planning, landscape architectural and architectural consultants for the challenging work of designing the campus for the new presence of UBC in the Okanagan.

In September 2005, UBC Okanagan will assume responsibility for the University programs offered by Okanagan University College (OUC) at the former OUC North Campus site in Kelowna. UBC will integrate the UBC Okanagan Campus with the entire operations of UBC to offer the comprehensive post-secondary education fostered by UBC. The University’s commitment to British Columbians is one university — two great campuses.

UBC Okanagan’s vision is to establish a world-class teaching and research-intensive university that is distinctive in its academic programs, is responsive to the special needs of the Okanagan, attracts outstanding faculty and students and is an economic driver in the region. This is an exciting opportunity for the University to prepare a Master Plan for the former OUC North Campus to meet the accelerated student enrolment demands in the region and give form and shape to support the innovative Academic Plan that is being developed this Fall.

The University is interested in receiving an Expression of Interest from firms, or consortia of firms, willing to provide consulting services to the University to achieve the plan that will guide the future physical development of UBC Okanagan.

Interested proponents can obtain additional information from the detailed EOI document, posted on the University’s planning Web site www.okanagan.ubc.ca. Expressions of Interest submissions, including full credentials of the firm(s) must be received prior to 2:00 p.m. December 16, 2004 at the offices of UBC Okanagan, AVP Operations, 3333 College Way, Kelowna, BC V1V 1V7, Room LIB 236.

Submissions will be evaluated at the discretion of the University based upon the information contained in the submissions and a shortlist of design teams, who will be invited to submit a more detailed proposal for the full planning / architectural services for this project.

Questions about the services required to undertake the preparation of the Master Plan for the UBC Okanagan campus should be directed to Aidan Kiernan, AVP Operations, UBC Okanagan, telephone 250.862.5612, e-mail akiernan@ouc.bc.ca. Any submission may not necessarily be accepted.
