UBC Okanagan’s United Way Campaign has exceeded its 2005 goal of raising $25,000.
“We have gone beyond our original goal — the fund-raising total is now well over $26,000,” said UBC Okanagan Campaign Chair Dr. Louise Nelson. “We have been very fortunate to have such strong and generous support from UBC Okanagan staff, faculty and students.”
The goal was achieved through payroll-deduction and direct contributions from many in the UBC Okanagan community, and several fund-raising events – ranging from a recent bake sale and silent auction to a barbecue lunch and Halloween costume contest in October.
“We are very pleased with the participation of our University community in this, our first-ever United Way campaign,” said UBC Okanagan Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Barry McBride. “Everyone wins with this kind of exciting project. Our staff, faculty and students have helped the United Way in pursuing its goals this year, and we have enriched our campus life with fun social events while making a difference in our community.”
The final fund-raising total was announced at a wrap-up event on campus, with entertainment provided by singers from Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School’s Grade 2 and 4 classes.
“We gratefully acknowledge the help of our UBC Okanagan campaign team, all our volunteers and all who have contributed to this worthy cause,” said Dr. Nelson. “Thank you for your generosity.”
