UBC alumni from the Okanagan region and UBC Okanagan students will be putting the puck in the net and food in the Kelowna Food Bank, through a charity hockey game at the Rutland Arena next week.
Sponsored by UBC Alumni Affairs and MBNA Canada, the first-annual UBC Okanagan alumni hockey night in Kelowna on Saturday, March 18, will see the UBC Okanagan Student All-Stars taking on UBC Alumni.
“This is an exciting match-up that promises edge-of-your-seat entertainment,” says Shawn Swallow, manager of Career Development and Alumni Services at UBC Okanagan. “We are expecting some very skilled UBC alumni players, and we know the students are strong and ready to put a very competitive team on the ice.”
Admission to the game is free, however, hockey fans are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items for the Kelowna Food Bank. “The winners of this alumni event should be those who need the most help, and we believe the Food Bank is a great beneficiary,” says Swallow.
The big game starts at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Rutland Arena. For more information contact Shawn Swallow by e-mail (shawn.swallow@ubc.ca) or call 250.807.9223.
