Well-known Vernon coach to lead men’s soccer team

July 15, 2006

UBC Okanagan and Okanagan College are pleased to announce that Wayne Aasen has been appointed head coach of the Okanagan Lakers men’s soccer team.

Aasen has his Canadian Soccer Association “B” Licence and, in addition to coaching various House and Select teams in Vernon, is an instructor in the Okanagan Centre for Soccer Excellence.

“I am very pleased to have Wayne join our staff,” says Rob Johnson, UBC Okanagan Director of Athletics. “He is a strong technical coach, has an obvious passion for the game and recognizes the role that fitness plays in success on the field.”

“I am excited to have been chosen to work with the Lakers men’s team,” says Aasen. “I look forward to contributing to the development of the program.”

As part of the transition process, UBC Okanagan and Okanagan College have permission from the British Columbia Colleges’ Athletics Association (BCCAA) to field joint teams for the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons.
