Bob Lindsay, a long-time Kelowna businessman and active booster of amateur sports in the Okanagan, has been named as the new chairperson for the Valley First Credit Union / UBC Okanagan Athletic Scholarship Breakfast.
“We are extremely pleased that Bob will lead this annual fund-raising event, with proceeds going directly to support scholarships for our student athletes,” said Rob Johnson, Director of Athletics and Recreation at UBC Okanagan.
“Bob has shown unflagging commitment to the development of quality athletic programs, and he continues that commitment as Chair of this very important varsity athletics fund-raiser.”
Lindsay retired last December as Senior Vice President of Retail Banking with Valley First Credit Union. He currently serves as President of the Okanagan Sun Football Club — continuing a passion for sports that has always been part of his life.
“I have been involved in sports since I can remember as a player at junior high, high school, and at the junior, intermediate and senior levels with Basketball Ontario,” says Lindsay. He was a strong competitor before participating at the organizational level in basketball, lacrosse and football.
The inaugural Valley First Credit Union / UBC Okanagan Athletics Scholarship Breakfast held April 21 at Kelowna’s Coast Capri Hotel, raised $25,000 for a brand-new UBC Okanagan Athletics Scholarship Endowment. UBC matched that amount — doubling the initial endowment total to $50,000.
Valley First Credit Union has committed to be the title sponsor for the next two years of the fund-raising breakfast.
