Tri-lingual options at UBC Okanagan

December 18, 2008

For the first time, UBC Okanagan Community and Continuing Studies is offering non-credit adult term and evening courses in three languages: French, Spanish and Mandarin.

“From introductory Mandarin and intermediate French to advanced Spanish, individuals will find our language courses offer a supportive, enjoyable atmosphere,” says Tia-Maria Hoeller, Program Leader, Community and Continuing Studies. “The instructors take a communicative, interactive approach to teaching, creating a very positive learning environment for students.”

Returning this year – at a brand-new location – is the French and Spanish Immersion Weekend, scheduled for May 2 and 3 at The Cove Lakeside Resort. Hoeller says this program is ideal for individuals who have some knowledge of the target language, and offers an opportunity to practice Spanish or French in an immersion setting.

“People can choose from elementary, intermediate and advanced levels,” says Hoeller. “A total of 10 hours of class instruction and six hours of socio-cultural activities will have you communicating quickly and effectively.”

An advanced level of French especially designed for teachers is also available during the Immersion Weekend, which includes a review of the fundamental principles of French grammar, related teaching methodologies, and audio-visual and cultural enhancements.

To download a registration form for the Immersion Weekend program visit www.ubc.ca/okanagan/continuingstudies and go to Winter/Spring 2009 Programs.
